Emerging Choreographers Showcase & Awards

Four dancers dressed in janitors' overalls form a line on a performance stage, holding swiffers as they dance.

San Diego Dance Theater annually seeks newly emerging dancemakers to participate in the Emerging Choreographers Showcase & Awards, a competition that awards three prizes to participants: Best Overall Choreography, Best Dancer, and Audience Favorite.

This exhilarating show is a beloved staple in San Diego, with its main purpose being to bring exposure and support to growing choreographers in the community. This year, we have removed the age requirements to include dancemakers who emerge at any age in life.

This Year's Showcase

This season, SDDT invites submissions that focus on environmental justice themes that find dance as a voice for change. Artistic content is encouraged to foster awareness, perspective, and sustainability.  While this program is a contest, it is also a supportive process building collaboration, creative expression, and community.

Performance: June 4th, 2023
In the Light Box Theater
