Young Choreographers + Invited Guests

Last year, everything shut down the day before we had planned to hold the Young Choreographers Showcase & Prize. We never expected the pandemic to last this long. We are happy to announce that we are hosting a Young Choreographers + Invited Guests performance in June on our outdoor stage at Liberty Station. In collaboration with Malashock Dance and San Diego Ballet, the outdoor stage will have programming from the three companies for five weeks in May and June.
The performance will have two parts and the Young Choreographers finalists will still be able to compete for prizes in three categories: Best Overall Choreography, Best Dancer, and Audience Favorite (as voted on by the audience at all shows). The second part will include guests from the SDDT School and Live Arts Fest 2020 who were unable to perform last spring.

Invited Guests presenting: Mayra Barragan | GATONEGRO, H2O Dance Company, Dance Fierce soloist Maya Allum with choreography by Mario Jaimes, Luis Lopez & Mitchum Todd

San Diego Dance Theater annually seeks young dancemakers to participate in the Young Choreographers Showcase & Prize, a competition that awards three prizes to participants: Best Overall Choreography, Best Dancer, and Audience Favorite (as voted on by the audience at both shows). Young choreographers of all dance styles are invited to apply.
There will be a Call for Artists in the fall of 2021 for a 2022 performance. More details to come.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 30 by the show date
- Be a resident of San Diego County or Northern Baja Mexico
- Submission must be for a new piece of choreography/work in progress
