New Voices of San Diego Dance Theater
We are requesting your support for an exciting new project called "New Voices from San Diego Dance Theater," to be performed at San Diego State University's Don Powell Theater on May 14 and 15, 2011. We are working on creating a dance making legacy at San Diego Dance Theater, which includes unearthing new opportunities for the next generation of choreographers in our region. We have selected five young choreographers who are new to the San Diego choreographic dance scene: Blythe Barton, Anne Gehman, Anjanette Maraya-Ramey, Stephanie Smith, and Minaqua McPherson, all of whom have developed through San Diego Dance Theater’s work-study program at Dance Place San Diego. This group of choreographers will work with SDSU's Graduate Students in scenic, costume, and lighting design in the state-of-the-art theater as part of our partnership with the University's Department of Theater, Television, and Film. They will create half of the evening's program, with Artistic Director Jean Isaacs’ own choreography comprising the other half.
And here is where you come in. You gifts will provide small stipends to each choreographer to help cover the costs for each of the pieces, as well as cover some marketing and technical costs for "New Voice from San Diego Dance Theater." Each piece requires rehearsal space rental, costuming, props, and a performance stipend for each dancer.
